You’re Sorry for Me? I’m So Sorry…

Shidduch counselingIn the spirit of my recommended response for people who say “im yirtza Hashem by you“, and based on the reader response to “You’re single? I’m so sorry…” I would like to recommend that the next time someone acts sensitively toward you simply because you’re single, put an arm around their shoulder, let your voice go soft, and say, with the utmost sympathy:

“I’m so sorry that you have trouble coming to terms with my being single. Is there any way I can help? Do you want to talk about it?”

(And send me a picture of their face…)

  1. Dreamer, visit the post (via the hyperlink) to find out. The comments, if not the post itself, will be enlightening… ;-)

    Thanks, Adam! I am too.

  2. My teenage students would respond with something like this: “IY”H by your mother!!” Now if you say that say that to those well-meaning, annoying souls, they won’t get the diss, but you’ll leave them somewhat stumped which is always fun.

  3. Responding to commenter #1, “im yirtzeh hashem by you” is offensive because it’s implying that there’s a possibility of of “im lo yirtzeh hashem.”

  4. :-D Maybe they all agree with me? A blog like this generally attracts an audience that relates to its contents. But to answer: no, I don’t delete posts I don’t agree with.
